New Year's Court in Denmark - Day 1

Every year, on January 1st, the Danish Royal Family (the Queen, Prince Consort, Crown Prince, Crown Princess, Prince Joachim, and Princess Marie), as well as the Japenese Imperial Family celebrate the New Year. I'm sure they is just a ceremony to ring in the New Year. All I really know, is that there is tiaras.

I don't really want to be mean to the Danish ladies. Well, Mary's outfit is really nice, a orange dress repeated from 2010. She wore Queen Ingrid's Ruby Parure Tiara, which she's worn every year for a while. Margrethe wore a blue velvet dress that she wore to her Ruby Jubilee. She also is wearing her gold tiara that she recieved from the people of Greenland for her Ruby Jubilee. Lastly, Marie wore a new shiny pink dress with weird ruffles in the back. She wore her usual Diamond Floral Tiara. I was betting on her new tiara, that she hasn't debuted yet.

Royal Fashion Awards: Danish Christening

Today, was the christening of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie’s daughter. I watched the christening live, it was very beautiful. The princess’s name is Athena Marguerite Françoise Marie, she is so very cute.

I had to give this award to Prince Joachim for obvious reasons, he is beaming a giant grin, he is wearing a pink tie, he looks very dapper, and he made a beautiful child. Frederik would come in 2nd, he had a very nice tie, and he looks very happy to have a niece. Henrik looks good as well, for going to many christenings, he looks very good.

Princess Marie

Princess Marie was pretty much given this award, a pale pink dress and shoes, a very colourful brooch and a very cute baby. Crown Princess Mary would come 2nd, I hate prints, but I love this outfit; I love Mary’s hair, aquamarine earrings, blue clutch and shoes. It was a tie for last with Carina Axelsson (the long-term girlfriend of Prince Gustav of Berleburg) and Queen Margrethe for obvious reasons.

Princess Athena was a very cute girl at the ceremony, she put a smile on my face a lot – that’s why she’s first. Princess Isabella came in second with a repeat dress, a cute hairstyle and shoes. All the guys tied with 3rd, they all look great, especially Henrik, he looks very, very cute. And Nikolai and Felix, your father has taught you well. :)

To tell you the truth, I actually like this one. It has an oversized shirt (Not a big fan) and pointy shoes (Yuck!) but, Beatrix looks good in it.

Fashion Friday: Diamond Jubilee tour of Scandinavia

This was not the first tour of the Diamond Jubilee. I just like this one better, there was so much style in this tour than other tours. The next tour the couple will take together, will be to my Nation, Canada. Also, they are coming to my Province’s Capital! Regina, Saskatchewan. I am busy, so I will not be able to see them.

The Royal Couple started their journey in Norway where they meet the Crown Prince, Princess, King and Queen. The Queen and King and the royal couple participated in a wreath laying ceremony. In the evening, they attended a reception, with Mette-Marit, Haakon, Sonja, Martha Louise, Haakon, and Harald. In the afternoon, Charles, Camilla, Sonja and Harald visited Bergen. Sonja and Camilla visited a nature kindergarten. There was a concert and reception at Håkon’s Hall. The royal couple, queen and king took a tour of the Bryggen wharf. And finally, Sonja and Camilla visited Troldhaugen in Bergen.

Mette-Marit appeared twice through out the visit, Mette-Marit’s favourite appearance was the evening, well one the hair and the diamond and pearl earrings. Martha Louise, appeared once, wearing a repeat dress. Sonja looked great in this tour, better than she has before.

Sweden wasn’t a great hit for Camilla but she does look good. Rocking the plaid! hey couple were greeted by Prince Carl Philip at the Stockholm Airport. The whole Royal Family was in attendance (minus little Estelle). Silvia and Camilla visited a Pre-school in Solna. While, Charles and Carl  XVI Gustaf toured the residential area in Stockholm.

I say, the Swedish ladies rocked this tour! I want to say, I LOVE Silvia’s suit, I LOVE the little bow in the back! And I adore Victoria coming, and she did not disappoint me. And I was very happy that Princess Madeleine came. I just didn’t like the neckline on her Victoria Beckham dress.

Camilla kicked off her tour of Denmark at the airport, being welcomed by the Crown Prince and Princess. On Sunday, the royal couple were in attendance at the Service of the Holy Communion, afterward, the royal couple planted a tree at the Churchill Park. The day started with a visit to Kastellet, with the Crown Prince and Princess. The Royal couple then, went to have a tour of the Old Town and St. Mary’s Church, the then visited Kronborg Palace. The Royal Couple attended a Gala at Christians VIIs Palace. Camilla and Mary visited the film set of, ‘The Killing’. Where they met the cast, played with toy guns and had a great time. Later, the ladies were in Ballerup where they toured the Center for Clinical and Basic Research.

Crown Princess Mary was the best dressed Royal on the tour to Denmark. Princess Marie was a close second (with one outfit) and just after giving birth. And Queen Margrethe was in dead last.

Wedding Wednesday: Queen Margrethe’s Dress

Queen Margrethe and her husband, Prince Henrik, have proved to be quite the dynamic duo through the years. But they almost never met. The future Queen of Denmark and the French diplomat were both invited to a dinner party in London while the princess was studying there. He considered cancelling when he heard she'd be there; he assumed she'd be quite the bore. Needless to say, he went anyway, and found her fascinating. Margrethe didn't fall in love that night but when she eventually did, she fell hard.

Queen Margrethe has a healthy respect for tradition but isn't afraid to have her own crazy style. That streak starts with her engagement ring: these two large diamonds set in yellow gold make up a ring that is far from a conventional choice and is a sign.

Margrethe and Henri married in Holmens Kirke in Copenhagen at the close of days of glittering celebrations. She made a traditional selection for her wedding dress designer: Jørgen Bender, a favorite of her mother Queen Ingrid and a staple royal couturier. The resulting gown combined family traditions and the theatrical touches Margrethe's creative mind requires in to a gown with touches straight out of an old royal painting.

The silk dress featured a flared skirt, long sleeves and a square neckline. The front showcased several family traditions: the lace down the center is a piece of lace passed down from Queen Ingrid's mother, Crown Princess Margaret of Sweden, from her own wedding gifts. This lace (along with another narrower piece of lace) has been used on various family wedding gowns.

In the center of the lace, she pinned a special family brooch. The diamond daisy brooch was commissioned by Ingrid's father from diamonds belonging to Crown Princess Margaret, and was a wedding gift for Ingrid (she wore it on her wedding day too). "Daisy" is the affectionate family nickname of both Crown Princess Margaret and Queen Margrethe herself, making it an extra precious symbol. She also carried daisies in her bouquet that day, and had them placed in her bridesmaids' hair.

Both the veil and tiara were family heirlooms from Margaret: the Irish lace veil was and is worn by many family members, and her use of the Khedive of Egypt Tiara (another of Margaret's wedding gifts) helped solidify it as the traditional family wedding tiara.

The six meter long silk train descended from Margrethe's shoulders and ended with an unusual squared edge detail which echoed the gown's neckline. A theatrical feature for a creative bride, I'm sure.

The wedding was a joyful affair with one dark spot: the absence of Margrethe's younger sister, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece. Her husband, King Constantine, was deeply embroiled in the political turmoil that eventually led the family into exile at the end of 1967. The Danish government did not want him in the country, and so the couple stayed away. In what seems to have been her own little form of vigilante retribution, Queen Ingrid placed pictures of the couple all over Fredensborg Palace, where the reception was held.

Henri adopted the Danish version of his name, Henrik, and was made a Prince of Denmark. They have two sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, and Henrik became the prince consort when Margrethe ascended the throne in 1972. Theirs has been a successful match, and seemingly a solid one; apart, that is, from one foible which involved Henrik fleeing to France in a huff, feeling downgraded after Frederik was chosen first to lead a New Year's Court reception in Margrethe's absence in 2002. (Well, I said it was an eccentric match.)

Tiara Tuesdays: Baden Palmette Tiara*

Made by Koch. The romantic piece, whose palmette motifs join to resemble hearts, aww, was given by Luise.

Princess Luise was given this tiara for a wedding gift from her father, Kaiser Wilhelm I. Luise then gave the tiara to her daughter, Victoria of Sweden. Victoria then gave it to her granddaughter, Queen Ingrid. Queen Margrethe inherited the tiara on her mother's death in 2000. Princess Benedikte has worn it before and Princess Alexandra wore it to Margrethe’s birthday celebrations.

Margrethe first appeared in this tiara in 2001 at Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit. From then on, Margrethe has worn the tiara to many different occasions.

I have seen the tiara (many times and the dress, even at the New Year’s Court). And the earrings are new. The top with the rubies and Diamond things aren’t new. The Black Pearls are new.

I love the Blue it is wonderful! She made a good choice of the hair! So Beautiful! And the Collar, it’s great and the length of the sleeves are as well nice.
