Princess Madeleine: Wedding Tiara Guesses

The engagement was announced not that long ago, it doesn't hurt anyone to show tiara options, though. Madeleine has worn a fair amount of tiaras (like any other Swedish Princess). Her engagement ring is rather lovely as well, so I wonder what tiara she'll chose. The wedding is to be in the summer of 2013 in Sweden. Update: The wedding will take place on June 8, 2013.
Princess Madeleine's engagement ring

Diamond Bandeau Tiara

The Diamond Bandeau Tiara, Madeleine and her older sister, Victoria (above) have both worn this tiara. This is a choice that will probably not be likely for Madeleine. It's a very simple piece, I won't be surprised if she will wear it as a necklace.

Bragança (Brazilian) Tiara

Bragança (Brazilian) Tiara was created in the 18th century in France. It once belonged to Empress Amelie of Brazil. The tiara is a large piece, and I like it very much. Madeleine has never worn it, I'm sure that it won't be used for her wedding. If she does, I will be very happy. Queen Silvia wears this tiara often (not all the time), and I'll be happy if Madeleine wears this.

Aquamarine Bandeau Tiara

The Aquamarine Bandeau Tiara was a 18th birthday present from her parents. It was made long ago, Queen Louise of Sweden used to wear that, and she lived from 1851-1926, so it's a very old piece.

Connaught Diamond Tiara

This tiara was acquired by Crown Princess Margaret, born as a princess of Connaught, on her wedding day in 1905.  The tiara was given to Margaret by her parents, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Princess Luise Margarete of Prussia. Madeleine's aunt, Princess Christina, wore the tiara on her wedding day. Madeleine wore it to her sister, Crown Princess Victoria's wedding in 2010. It looks very nice on Madeleine, so it's probably in favour for the tiara on her wedding.

Diamond Four Button Tiara

The first diamond button tiara of the Swedish collection. The tiara is normally worn by Madeleine and Victoria. This diamond buttons used on this tiara were reportedly used on the crown at the coronation of King Carl XIV Johan in 1818. I'm not very fond of this tiara, same with the one below, but it isn't my choice. Whatever Madeleine choses, I'm fine with.

Diamond Six Button Tiara

The second diamond button tiara of the Swedish collection. The tiara is normally worn by Victoria. This diamond buttons used on this tiara were reportedly used on the crown at the coronation of King Carl XIV Johan in 1818. In recent years, there has been an alteration of having three rows of diamonds on its base. Again, I'm not fond of this tiara, it's not my choice, and I have no say in it.

Modern (Carl XVI Gustaf) Fringe Tiara

The Modern Fringe (Carl Gustaf XVI) Fringe Tiara is a newer piece in the Swedish collection. The diamond tiara was given to Queen Silvia by King Carl XVI Gustaf (hence the name) in 1986 to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. The tiara can also be worn as a necklace (see the Diamond Four Button tiara, the necklace is this tiara). I like this piece, and it looks good on Madeleine, but I'm putting my money on the tiara below:

Cameo Tiara

The antique gold and pearl tiara, was likely a gift from Nepoleon to Joséphine in 1809. She gave the tiara to her granddaughter, Queen Josephine of Sweden. The large cameos, show scenes from Greek mythology, weren't originally made for the tiara. The piece has become something of an unofficial wedding tiara for the Swedish royal women. Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, and two of the king's sisters, Princess Birgitta and Princess Désirée. So, I'm putting my money on it, it's a tradition to wear it!

Update:

Napoleonic Amethyst Tiara

Madeleine wore this tiara at the Nobel Prize awards, 2012. It was the first time she ever wore it. I wouldn't think it would be a wedding tiara. I think that I'll be a tiara choice for Silvia or Victoria to wear.

Opening of Parliament in Sweden

Today was the opening of Parliament in Sweden. And most countries do this, such as the UK, who has it in spring, and Denmark who celebrates it, I’m sure every 2nd of October. No matter! We’ll worry about Sweden right now.

MadeleineSilviaVictoria

I see their going for a black and white colour code. I still like what they wore, although, I do wish Madeleine and Victoria would wear hats in the front of their face. But, nothing like this:

Crown Princess Victoria - Meeting a new Bishop

This made my worst list of 2012. I think everyone agrees with me on this one, though.

Royal Fashion Awards: Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Part 1- Greet

Best of the Day

Queen Elizabeth II

image

I have to give this award to Elizabeth, with 60 years of good service to England, she has to be awarded this.

Best in Beatrix

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands

image

To tell you the truth, I actually like this one. It has an oversized shirt (Not a big fan) and pointy shoes (Yuck!) but, Beatrix looks good in it.

Best in Traditional

Empress Michiko of Japan

image

I would be hard wearing traditional clothing all the time. And with Japan with their wooden shoes, I would not survive. I have to give Michiko credit!

Worst in Usual

Queen Paola of Belgium

image

Purple over here, a ruffle over there. It was the normal Paola at the greet. But, they way it looks isn’t terrible.

Best in Great!

ex-Queen Anne-Marie of Greece

image

For a queen being 65 years old, she looks fantastic! I love the dress style and the accessories she wore too.

Worst in Shinny

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg

image

Maria Teresa looks ok. But it looked better the first time around.

Worst in Margrethe

Queen Margrethe of Denmark

image

Margrethe chose the usual outfit, a suit in a ugly colour. And with a odd material.

Best in Smiley

Queen Silvia of Sweden

image

Silvia looks very happy, and why shouldn't she? Her first granddaughter, Estelle is getting christened in 4 days.

Best in Fabulous!

Queen Rania of Jordan

image

Queen Rania looks good as she usually does. I want to have that shirt it looks great!

Best in her Usual self

Duchess of Cambridge

image

Catherine wowed, as usual. And in a very pretty colour!

Worst in White

Countess of Wessex

image

Sophie looks good, as she always does. But her jacket is un-flattering. And the waist of her dress looks very odd.

What a Wonderful Surprise!

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie

image

I was very happy when I saw the pictures of Beatrice and Eugenie here. They look great especially Beatrice!

Fashion Friday: Diamond Jubilee tour of Scandinavia

This was not the first tour of the Diamond Jubilee. I just like this one better, there was so much style in this tour than other tours. The next tour the couple will take together, will be to my Nation, Canada. Also, they are coming to my Province’s Capital! Regina, Saskatchewan. I am busy, so I will not be able to see them.

Norway

The Royal Couple started their journey in Norway where they meet the Crown Prince, Princess, King and Queen. The Queen and King and the royal couple participated in a wreath laying ceremony. In the evening, they attended a reception, with Mette-Marit, Haakon, Sonja, Martha Louise, Haakon, and Harald. In the afternoon, Charles, Camilla, Sonja and Harald visited Bergen. Sonja and Camilla visited a nature kindergarten. There was a concert and reception at Håkon’s Hall. The royal couple, queen and king took a tour of the Bryggen wharf. And finally, Sonja and Camilla visited Troldhaugen in Bergen.

Norwegian Royal Style

Mette-Marit appeared twice through out the visit, Mette-Marit’s favourite appearance was the evening, well one the hair and the diamond and pearl earrings. Martha Louise, appeared once, wearing a repeat dress. Sonja looked great in this tour, better than she has before.

Sweden

Sweden wasn’t a great hit for Camilla but she does look good. Rocking the plaid! hey couple were greeted by Prince Carl Philip at the Stockholm Airport. The whole Royal Family was in attendance (minus little Estelle). Silvia and Camilla visited a Pre-school in Solna. While, Charles and Carl  XVI Gustaf toured the residential area in Stockholm.

Swedish Royal Style

I say, the Swedish ladies rocked this tour! I want to say, I LOVE Silvia’s suit, I LOVE the little bow in the back! And I adore Victoria coming, and she did not disappoint me. And I was very happy that Princess Madeleine came. I just didn’t like the neckline on her Victoria Beckham dress.

Denmark

Camilla kicked off her tour of Denmark at the airport, being welcomed by the Crown Prince and Princess. On Sunday, the royal couple were in attendance at the Service of the Holy Communion, afterward, the royal couple planted a tree at the Churchill Park. The day started with a visit to Kastellet, with the Crown Prince and Princess. The Royal couple then, went to have a tour of the Old Town and St. Mary’s Church, the then visited Kronborg Palace. The Royal Couple attended a Gala at Christians VIIs Palace. Camilla and Mary visited the film set of, ‘The Killing’. Where they met the cast, played with toy guns and had a great time. Later, the ladies were in Ballerup where they toured the Center for Clinical and Basic Research.

Danish Royal Style

Crown Princess Mary was the best dressed Royal on the tour to Denmark. Princess Marie was a close second (with one outfit) and just after giving birth. And Queen Margrethe was in dead last.

Tiara Tuesday: Carl XVI Gustaf Modern Fringe Tiara

Up-Close

This Tiara doesn’t have a lot of history to it but, it is a darn good sparkler. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden gave this tiara to Queen Silvia in 1986 for their 10th wedding anniversary.

Madeleine

This tiara is Princess Madeleine’s tiara of choice. She did not wear this tiara to her sister’s wedding in 2010. But, she did wear it as a necklace at her pre-wedding the day before (below, left)

Madeleine - Necklace

Princess Madeleine’s tiara of choice I would say is her necklace of choice. The Tiara as a Necklace I think might even look better as a necklace than a tiara.

Silvia - Necklace

Queen Silvia has worn this tiara as a necklace not a lot. But, has worn it.

Silvia

You know what’s odd, it’s Silvia’s tiara. Yet, she has only worn it once (or more, I don’t know, if there is, I have no pictures)

My Top 15 Tiaras: #9: The Baden Fringe Tiara

Tiara, Earrings, Necklace

This Tiara has made a appearance on my blog before.

My Top 15 Tiaras: #10: The Leuchtenberg Sapphire Parure Tiara

Up-Close

This gem has a provenance similar to another huge Scandinavian diadem: Empress Joséphine's Emerald Tiara, now in the possession of Norway's royal family. The sapphires are thought to have been a wedding gift from Napoléon to Princess Augusta of Bavaria, Duchess of Leuchtenberg, when she married Eugène de Beauharnais (Empress Joséphine's son).

VictoriaLouiseSibyllaBirgitta

Left to Right: Queen Victoria, Queen Louise, Princess Sibylla, Princess Birgitta

It makes the journey to Sweden with Augusta's daughter, Josephine, who was the Queen consort of Oscar I of Sweden and Norway. The parure is now in the family foundation in Sweden, and has been worn mostly by queens and those acting as first ladies of the country, though there are exceptions to that rule: one being when King Carl Gustaf's sister, Princess Birgitta, wore it for Carl Gustaf and Silvia's pre-wedding ball in 1976.

Birgitta's outing of the sapphires was the last time they were worn by anyone other than Queen Silvia (to date). She's made this one of her staples, and has explored all sorts of color combinations with the luscious blue sapphires.

Silvia

It's also flexible in form: the tiara is comprised of 11 separate sections, meaning you can adjust the circumference to suit your needs (it even stores flat in its case, which is quite interesting). This tiara is large and surely has a significant weight to it - but it is still a favorite, and I wonder if the flexibility factors into that. Surely the ability to form it to suit your head shape makes for a more comfortable tiara-wearing experience.

ParureDetailing

The tiara is the headliner in a full parure of jewellery. Today, that parure is composed of the tiara, earrings, a necklace, a brooch, and two hairpins. The earrings are relatively new to the set: Queen Victoria didn't wear earrings, so she either gave the originals away or had them remade into something else. Queen Louise (as Crown Princess) converted two of the four original hairpins into a set of earrings to complete the parure once again.

Oh, Mette-Marit. Why? It’s bad enough that you copied by with that dress. Oh! Why did Valentino make that? Oh!
